Ramayana Movie Review and Release Live Updates: Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash’s epic opens in cinemas worldwide; eyes historic run at box office

Nitesh Tiwari’s much-anticipated epic ‘Ramayana: Rise of a Legend’ has finally arrived in cinemas across India and international markets on Thursday, November 5. Starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita and Yash as Ravana, the ambitious adaptation of the Indian epic has generated enormous pre-release buzz, with many describing it as the most expensive film production attempted in the country.

Produced by Namit Malhotra, the film has been mounted on an estimated budget of Rs 4,000 crore, with Part 1 costing an estimated Rs 2,000 crore.

The film has entered its theatrical run with strong advance-bookings. According to Sacnilk, ‘Ramayana’ recorded Rs 49.75 crore gross in opening-day advance bookings in India, including block seats. Overseas advance sales have reportedly reached approximately USD 5.6 million, taking the combined worldwide advance-booking total beyond Rs 150 crore gross.

With such a strong pre-release response, trade estimates suggest that the film could open in the range of Rs 75-100 crore across languages on its first day. Some industry projections have placed its potential lifetime collections between Rs 1,000 crore and Rs 3,000 crore.

According to trade tracker Venky Box Office, Prime Focus Studios and Sony Pictures have approved a reported USD 10 million promotional and marketing budget for the film, said to be the highest ever for an Indian production. The report also suggests that the makers are targeting at least USD 65 million in overseas theatrical collections, including USD 30 million from North America.

The film is expected to release in multiple languages, catering to audiences across India and overseas. Reports suggest that the Hindi version has a runtime of approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes, while the English version has reportedly been shortened considerably to suit the viewing preferences of international audiences.

Early reactions from Indian screenings have been encouraging, with particular attention on Yash’s portrayal of Ravana, the film’s visual scale and its interpretation of the epic. International viewers have also begun sharing their impressions, with some praising its fantasy elements and comparing its ambition with major Hollywood productions.
